Being part of the age group team for Canada at the 2016 International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championships for duathlon in Spain was something I didn’t know was possible 3 years ago when I did my first duathlon. It was a marvelous experience and one I hope to repeat in 2017; in Canada. The inaugural ITU Multisport World Championships will be in Canada, August 18 to 27, 2017 in Penticton, B.C.  What an awesome opportunity to compete with athletes from around the world in duathlon, long distance and cross triathlon, and aquathlon. Triathlon Canada and the organizer want to see a forest of maple leaf uniforms in the race and on the podium; since, we are the host country, team Canada may include up to 25 males and 25 females in each 5 year age category. Check out the events at Penticton 2017 ITU Multisport World Championship Festival. To be guaranteed a spot you need to attain a qualifying spot (for example the Montreal Esprit). However, there are lots of other opportunities to gain a spot on the age group team.  Check out Triathlon Canada for details.  In brief, members of their provincial triathlon association who complete a qualifying event or a provincially sanctioned event are eligible to apply to join the team.
