On June 15 & 16, 2024, GTC will be participating in the Guelph Lake I Triathlon in memory of Steve Wilkie. Steve is a long-standing and beloved GTC member and member of the GTC Leadership Team. He passed away in November after battling cancer for the second time in his life.
Steve was passionate about the sport of Triathlon. Over his lifetime, he competed in more than 150 running and triathlon competitions locally, nationally, and internationally since 1987, including sprint distance all the way up to Ironman. He also represented Canada in his age group at the 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series in Montreal, Quebec.
GTC Club members will be racing individually or as part of a GTC relay team, or participating in the event by cheering on our Team members.
The GTC tent will be set up at the top of the grass hill where you can watch racers come up out of the water and the racers sprint down to the finish line in the last couple hundred meters of their run. Come hang out before or after your race. If not racing, come hang out for part of the day to cheer on your clubmates as they race – especially those from our beginner clinic who will be racing for the first time, or join the BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) GTC Lunch on Saturday, June 15th between the Olympic and Try-A-Tri races, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Bring your lunch to sit and enjoy together. GTC will have cupcakes for members who join!
Please join us at Guelph Lake I to help us remember and celebrate Steve’s contributions to our club, his enthusiasm for the sport of triathlon, and our friendships with him.
